|The new propeller shaft and support bearing||Shaft exiting through the stern gland|
After the month on 'Final Fling', I returned to Holland where the weather had turned an awful lot colder. The shipyard quickly raised the engine, fitted the support bearing and connected the prop shaft and before long Barge Nilaya was fully operational again. Once I'd paid the additional bill, instructed by the shipyard owners very proficient son as my tutor, I piloted my very own vessel on its very first voyage under my own command. It was not a little nerve wracking I can tell you. Part of the route involved an opening bridge, was extremely narrow and I'll confess to having nudged the side once or twice but I did it. I cruised through the village to 'Stichting Yachthaven Wartena' and a beautiful mooring that I would call home for the winter. A location that would provide amazing views, albeit mostly very cold ones!
